ISRO CONDUCTS ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL BREAKTHROUGH

1.          Through the successful launch of its work horse PSLV (Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle) to put the Indian TES (Technology Experiment Satellite), the BIRD ( Bio-spectral Infrared Detection satellite ) of the German Space Agency and the PROBA ( Project for On Board Autonomy ) of a Belgeum company on October 22, 2001, the Indian Space Research Organization has made the Indian S&T community, nay, the nation itself , proud once again. This is indeed a remarkable milestone in the dream trajectory of its founder, late Dr Vikram Sarabhai and his team of dedicated colleagues.

2.          The launch vehicle took off from the SHAR Centre at 10.23 a.m. IST . It ejected the first TES payload seventeen minutes after take-off, followed by  the BIRD after another 40 seconds and then the PROBA after 1658 seconds. Senior scientists of ISRO described the event as almost like a text book launch , proving once again the well proven capabilities of ISRO in the launch vehicle-cum-satellite technologies.
