Welcoming the India-US agreement on nuclear energy
cooperation, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)
has said the energy dialogue between the two countries
augers well as the agenda focussed on all possible
energy resources. It stresses the need to develop
bilateral cooperation in securing coal supply for
electric power generation, increasing utilisation of
natural gas, renewable energy and nuclear power, and
for pursuing energy- efficient practices. It will
ensure a balanced and sustainable energy economy that
is crucial to preserve environment.
CII has said the civil nuclear cooperation agreement
makes a pragmatic and sensible departure from the
functional reactive programming (FRP), the three
decades of technology and nuclear fuel supply denial
regime.
"It will be possible for us to expand capacity at
Koodankulam project and provide fuel for the Tarapur
nuclear plant, further opening the possibilities of
developing greenfield projects," CII said.
