MNCs remain net negative forex earners.
| MNCs operating in India
continue to be net negative FE earners, with over three-fourths of their
outflows being on account of imports.RBI study of 334 such units show that
these companies incurred a combined FE expenditure of Rs 9,052 crores during
1999-2000, their earnings totalling only Rs 7,722 crores. Our S&T policy
makers must open up to wonder whether these are the effects of even the
erstwhile "screw driver technologies" giving way to "plugging in technologies"
under the New Economic policies
