| Thanks to the new products
based patent regime by 2005 and the large scale spreading of GM varieties
for crops such as cotton ( accounting for the consumption of 45% of all
crop-protection products) , this sector is going through serious panic-like
situation. And with no "new molecule capability " through their own R&D,
the Indian companies are in worse situation.( Cf : Business Line , May
20, 2001). Interestingly enough, the pesticides sector has instead initiated
action in cautioning the farmers on GM technology adoption , as if the
pesticides are totally benign !
